Intel Launches User-Generated Contest

Posted on 01. Dec, 2008 by Michael Brito in Social Media

When I first started at Intel, I was really jazzed about how the organization and culture has embraced social media; especially on the business/enterprise side of the house.  The community over at Open Port is thriving and alive. If you are an IT geek, go check it out. There is a ton of great content.

On the consumer side, all of our hard work is beginning to pay off. We launched a consumer blog in September; and traffic and engagement is growing month to month. We created a Facebook fan page, Youtube channel and Flickr account too; and they all integrated and/or linking to each other.

Today, we just launched a user-generated contest.  We have actually had the user-generated site – What’s Inside You — for quite some time; but we have been struggling with organic story submissions. While this site is not “purely” social media (we do have a strict moderation policy), I would argue that it is definitely the building blocks to a community; and could evolve into something similar to Open Port in the future.

The contest is all about story telling.  We want everyday people to share their stories about how using an Intel processor based computer has allowed them to create something amazing.  Examples could be photography, the creation of a small business, filmmakers, animators, designers and bloggers to name a few. The stories don’t need to be Oprah like quality or have a professional video presentation; in fact, the more organic and “real”, the better. There are some really cool prizes too.
